present realities, future possibilities

Call for Papers

On April 12th and 13th 2013 Broome Community College will hold its Fifth Annual Applied Ethics Conference. This year’s topic is Bioethics. No branch of ethical thought is more personal or universal than bioethics. We face daily decisions and challenges ranging from health care to end of life options. Perhaps no aspect of bioethics is more challenging today than technology: new procedures, new medications, new discoveries present us with new dimensions of old questions concerning life, death, choice and control.

The planning committee will consider papers and panel proposals on any relevant topic. These include, nature of personhood, sports and doping, enhancement, ethics of HIV testing and education, clinical decision making, and end of life issues.

Keynote speaker for the conference will be public health researcher and ethicist, Dr. Sean Philpott, assistant professor at Union College-Mount Sinai Bioethics Program.

Complete papers or abstracts of 500-700 words will be considered. Please submit by January 20th 2013. The conference will be held at Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York.
